Candolim Beach

Candolim Beach is the northern continuation of the same long sandbar that begins at Fort Aguada and Sinquerim, unrolling for several kilometres of pale, gently shelving sand. Where Anjuna and Vagator are about rock and cliff, Candolim is about space: a wide beach with room to walk, room for the shacks to spread out, and a sea that is usually calmer than the more exposed beaches to the north. It grew up as one of North Goa's first package-holiday hubs, and the strip behind it — running towards Calangute — is thick with hotels, restaurants and shops, which makes the beach itself busy without ever feeling wild.

The southern end, nearest Fort Aguada, is the quieter, more scenic stretch, good for a slow walk with the fort's ramparts above you; the central and northern parts are where the loungers, watersports operators and shack service cluster. Drishti Marine lifeguards patrol the beach, and the shelving sand and comparatively gentle surf make it one of the more swim-friendly beaches on this part of the coast — though, as everywhere in Goa, you should still respect the flags and currents rather than assume the sea is tame.
