St. Cajetan Church

St. Cajetan Church sits at the heart of Assagao, one of North Goa's leafiest and most sought-after villages, just off the Mapusa–Anjuna road. It is a working Roman Catholic parish church under the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman — and, importantly, a different building from the celebrated UNESCO-listed Church of St. Cajetan in Old Goa, with which it is often confused. This is the quieter, village one.

Its story is a typical arc of Bardez's Catholic villages. It began as a chapel in 1775, then affiliated to the parish of Anjuna, and was raised to a parish in its own right in 1813. Towards the end of the 19th century it was rebuilt and enlarged, gaining a cross aisle of two wings and a chancel, and was blessed again in 1897 — broadly the form visitors see today. It remains an active place of worship rather than a ticketed monument.
