Jugnu is one of Assagao's newer marquee openings and it made an immediate splash: a modern-Indian restaurant and cocktail bar set in a 160-year-old Portuguese mansion, with a menu curated by chef Ajay Chopra. It's designed as an immersive night out — an air-conditioned dining room, a private dining room, a lush tropical garden overlooking the heritage house, and an alfresco area beside a waterfall. The cooking is a confident fusion of North Indian classics and coastal cuisines from Kerala to Mumbai, with plenty of global crossover, and the bar programme (craft cocktails) is a big part of the pitch. It sits at the premium end and reads as a see-and-be-seen destination as much as a dinner, with strong ratings and an average around Rs 1,800 for two. Reservations are sensible, especially at weekends. It's on the Bairo Alto side of the village.
