Karjat sits at the foot of the Sahyadri hills, so most of its sights are about getting outdoors. Kothaligad, also called Peth fort, is a popular trek with a staircase cut through the rock of its pinnacle, and the Bahiri caves, reached by a steep scramble, are for the adventurous. In the rains Bhivpuri waterfall fills and the lake at Morbe Dam becomes a quiet place to watch the weather move across the ridges. It is an easy weekend from Mumbai and Pune, which is much of its appeal.
